The "Taufach peat-bog" near Werdenstein is mentioned for the first time towards the end of the middle-ages. In a historical document dated 1785, the public right of peat usufruct was confirmed; all Werdenstein subjects were entitled to the use the peat on their fields and it was to be available to the parson and the manor for heating.
