Lake Rottach

Lake Rottach looks so peacefully embedded in the undulating Allgäu prealpine landscape that one gets the impression that, like most of its "neighbours" on the Allgäu lake plateau, it must be a product of the melting glacier from the last ice age. In fact it is one of the youngest reservoirs in Bavaria. This reservoir was built up in an area of about 300 hektares in 1992 and now provides an adjustment for the water in the rivers Iller and Donau in extremely dry or rainy periods.

Meanwhile Lake Rottach has developed into a most popular water paradise for swimmers, sailors, wind-surfers, divers and anglers. On both sides generously spaced leisure facilities have been set up with toilets, changing facilities, a kiosk, a beach volleyball pitch, play areas and berths. Closely linked islands, shallow zones and deep water areas form a mosaic of different territories which provide ideal living conditions for a variety of flora and fauna.
The almost 15 km. long foot and cycle path makes wonderful extended walks and bike rides around the lake possible.
